There are three types of tests available for the COVID19 Coronavirus which are detailed below.
If a patient has symptoms of the virus or recently in contact with someone who has the virus, the Nasal swab can confirm presence of the active virus.
(Finger Prick Test)
If a patient has been potentially exposed to the virus more than 2 weeks ago, then this test will determine whether a patient has had an immune response. IgM antibodies are produced first, followed by IgG. An IgG result would provide evidence of a recent infection.
If a patient has been potentially exposed to the virus more than 2 weeks ago, then this test will determine whether a patient has had an immune response.
The host immune system reacts to the infection by SARS-CoV-2 by producing antibodies from a few days to 2 weeks and beyond.
Specific IgG antibodies are produced in the later stages of infection to SARS-CoV-2, and are detectable after RNA is no longer detectable.
The persistence of IgG antibodies allows identification of people who have been infected by SARS-CoV-2
