☑️ Raised Blood Sugar Levels
☑️ Insulin Resistance
Metabolic health is how well your body processes food and sugar, and generates and uses energy.
It's a complex system that's based on many factors, some of which you can influence and others that are set. Being aware of your metabolic health can help you change your health and in the ideal world prevent the development of diabetes.
Why is diabetes such a problem?
Diabetes is a chronic or ongoing problem that impairs the body's ability to process blood glucose (sugar) and it is a growing worldwide problem which has life-long negative implications:
-
Blood vessel damage
High blood glucose levels can damage blood vessels in the heart, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. This can lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney problems, and vision loss.
-
Foot problems
Nerve damage and poor blood flow can cause foot ulcers, sores, and infections, which may lead to amputation if left untreated.
-
Nerve damage
Diabetes can cause pain and loss of feeling, especially in the feet.
-
Sexual problems
Damage to blood vessels and nerves can restrict blood flow to the sexual organs, making it difficult to get or maintain an erection.
-
Other health problems
Diabetes can also increase the risk of gum disease, miscarriage, stillbirth, and related conditions like cancer.

Glucose Monitoring
We use the Dexacom One+ device which registers your glucose levels at regular intervals.
It is connected to a free App downloadable to your phone, and used in conjunction with our food diary, will help analyse your metabolic health.
Entering any activity or events will give you the understanding to change and improve your lifestyle and health.
The device is usually painless to fit and is shower and swimproof.
Data from the App and Food diary will be reviewed by Dr Dasgupta during your appointment and discussed with you.
You can choose to have the blood tests, HCA checks and glucose monitor before your appointment with Dr Dasgupta.
You will need to book and pay for the appointment with Dr Dasgupta at the same time.
You will need to be 'nil by mouth' for 12 hours prior to the blood testing (water allowed) and have a smartphone to use the App associated with the glucose monitor.
The glucose monitor and associated food diary take 10 days to complete so your appointment with Dr Dasgupta will be after that.
