What's in a Blood Test?

Blood tests are used as a very important tool in medicine, to resolve issues you currently have, how you are responding to current treatment, or as a preventative for future issues that could occur without intervention.

Read on for more information about the procedure of blood tests and how to give someone you love the gift of health at Christmas, or alternatively have a listen to our podcast on the specifics of blood tests and our vouchers.

Our health has been a common theme throughout 2020, so finding out how well you or a loved one are could be a good way to start the new year. The two gift vouchers we are offering are a good way to have a benchmark of your health status, whilst also being a way to encourage someone to better look after themselves. Most people who receive a blood test do so because they are experiencing unusual symptoms that are persistent, want to optimise their health, or reduce the risk of disease or complications. With the help of our doctors, a blood test can give you or someone you care about a bespoke treatment plan so that we can reverse any issues you may have or will begin to have, creating a healthier and happier version of you.

The procedure is quick and simple: blood is drawn from a vein in your arm with a needle attached to a small test tube. A small band may be tied just above your arm as you make a fist, which helps the veins become more visible for an easier insertion of the needle. The whole process takes less than three minutes. Most blood tests do not require you to fast, which is the case for our Christmas gift vouchers.

Results can be back for our DL2 blood tests and well person checks within 1-2 days, so you will not be in the dark about your health for very long. Our specialist doctors will then ring you with your results and consult you about the findings.

The first gift voucher we are offering is for a full blood test and phone consultation for £120, which checks the kidney, liver and blood functions in your body. You will receive results by email the following day, along with a phone discussion about your results. This would be a great way to kick off the year and to set any goals to become healthier.

Our second gift voucher is a more thorough well-person check for £398, involving a comprehensive 45 minute assessment with a GP including a full medical history, lifestyle review, physical examination, spirometry-lung function, ECG and urinalysis. Blood tests are also included, looking at your kidneys, liver, cholesterol and lipid profile as well as a full blood count. A follow up 15 minute phone consultation with our specialist GP will discuss the results and next steps.
